The ultimate vision of Vision for Eastbourne, aside from helping the town of Eastbourne realise its full potential, is to bring together a Digital Archive of the town’s history and assets.
In the absence of a town museum, the technologies of the 21st Century now allow for photographs and information to be collected, collated and curated digitally. When in electronic form, it can be shared universally with those that wish – or need – to access it.
With pride in our connections across the societies and organisations that themselves celebrate and cultivate the town’s heritage, history and evolution, we’re forging links to address the cornucopia of collections, many of which are still in boxes and have not seen the light of day for many years. We have staged plans to audit, digitise and unify these.
Individuals, too, have personal collections that deserve to be and need to be, part of this collection … to provide a true Eastbourne Digital Archive.
It will be a grand task and at, no doubt, some considerable cost.
